Noise Contour map
Noise contour mapping that shows where noise comes from and how it spreads across a site, so noise control can be planned for the people and areas affected.

A noise contour map shows the noise sources on a site and how their noise spreads. Seeing the whole picture makes it possible to plan the right noise control for the people and areas affected by noise.
How we survey: noise levels are measured on a grid across the site while the equipment runs under normal operating conditions. At each grid point we record the Leq over 1 minute, with measurement points 10 metres apart. The results are plotted on the site plan and turned into contour lines and a colour noise map in dB(A).
Example project: gas compressor station (SCS, Sai Yok). The survey was carried out with two gas compressors running at the same time, measuring Leq for 1 minute at points every 10 metres (measured on 16 August 2012). The map showed the highest levels, around 88 to 92 dB(A), around the compressor units, falling to about 62 to 66 dB(A) towards the site boundary. It was used to locate noise control measures: absorption noise barriers, absorption for pipes, absorption enclosures and absorption for siding metal sheets.
